Sudden Temperature Plunge Brings Relief and Health Concerns to the Region
Intermittent rain since Sunday morning has brought down the temperature in the city by about 10 notches. While people had been using air conditioners just two days ago, the majority had to switch off even fans by Monday evening as the maximum temperature fell to 23 degrees Celsius and the minimum stood at 19 degrees.
People savoured hot cups of ginger tea and coffee while trying to ensure the sudden drop in temperature did not affect their health. There has been a spurt in footfall of patients complaining of cough, cold, and mild fever in almost all hospitals.
Even though rainfall remained light to moderate, it was perhaps snowfall in the upper reaches of Himachal Pradesh that led to the drop in temperature. The rain did not affect the procured paddy much as it has been kept inside on covered, cemented platforms in the mandis, most of which were covered with tarpaulin sheets. Arrivals have so far been slow and are expected to slow down further as farmers wait for the crop and grains to dry out again.
The weather prediction for tomorrow also remains rainy, with temperatures ranging from 19 to 24 degrees Celsius. After the wet spell ends, the temperature will again begin to normalize, touching 30 degrees by next Monday, according to weather experts.
