Kantara Chapter 1 Storms Global Box Office, Nears ₹200 Crore Milestone
Rishab Shetty’s period action film, Kantara Chapter 1, continues its remarkable box office run, showing no signs of slowing down after its Dussehra release. Defying the typical post-holiday dip on a working Friday, the film has set the stage for a massive opening weekend with sustained housefull shows across India and impressive international numbers.
The prequel to the blockbuster Kantara had a stellar opening day, earning nearly ₹90 crore worldwide. On its second day, the film added a robust domestic net collection of ₹45 crore. This brings its two-day domestic total to ₹106.85 crore net (₹128.25 crore gross), making it the highest-grossing Kannada film of the year, having already surpassed the lifetime collections of Su From So.
The film’s success is not confined to India. Overseas, Kantara Chapter 1 has garnered over $2.5 million in its first two days. This powerful performance pushes its worldwide gross to an astounding ₹151 crore.
With this total, the film has overtaken the lifetime collections of recent major releases like Mirai (₹142 crore), Kesari Chapter 2 (₹144 crore), and Sky Force (₹150 crore). The film is now poised to smash the ₹200 crore barrier as early as Saturday. Bolstered by strong word-of-mouth, industry trackers predict it could cross the ₹300 crore mark by early next week.
A prequel set a thousand years before the original film, Kantara Chapter 1 is written and directed by Rishab Shetty, who also stars in the lead. The film features a cast including Rukmini Vasanth, Jayaram, and Gulshan Devaiah.
