Heavy Rains Batter Mumbai: Flights Disrupted, Major Roads Waterlogged as More Showers Forecast

Mumbai was lashed by intense overnight rainfall, causing significant disruption across the city on Sunday. Key areas, including the Andheri subway, were severely waterlogged, leading to major traffic diversions and congestion.

The India Meteorological Department’s Colaba observatory recorded a substantial 120.8 mm of rainfall in the 24-hour period ending at 8:30 am, while the Santacruz observatory recorded 83.8 mm.

Airlines have proactively issued advisories for passengers. SpiceJet and IndiGo both warned of extensive traffic congestion on roads leading to the airport, urging travelers to check live traffic and flight statuses before beginning their journey. The weather conditions are anticipated to worsen throughout the day, with forecasts predicting more intense showers. This is expected to lead to further waterlogging, increased traffic snarls, and potential disruptions to local train services.
