Heavy Rains Soak Delhi-NCR; IMD Issues Yellow Alert for North India
A fresh western disturbance has brought persistent rainfall to Delhi-NCR since Monday morning, with heavy showers intensifying in the early hours of Tuesday. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for the region, forecasting intermittent rain throughout the day.
The downpour is expected to cause waterlogging in low-lying areas, potentially leading to significant traffic disruptions during the morning commute. Residents are advised to check traffic updates before heading out.
The wet spell is also predicted to extend the ongoing chill in the capital, with temperatures expected to drop further. On Monday, the maximum temperature settled at 26.5°C, nearly eight degrees below normal.
The IMD has also issued warnings for heavy rainfall in several other states over the next 24-36 hours:
- Punjab & Haryana: An orange alert is in effect for several districts.
- Bihar & East Uttar Pradesh: Heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely over the next two to three days.
- Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh & Jammu & Kashmir: An orange alert for heavy rain and snowfall in the hills has been issued, with gusty winds expected.
- West Bengal, Jharkhand & Odisha: Isolated heavy rain with thunderstorms is forecast.
In contrast, West Bengal is expected to see some relief, with no major rainfall warnings for the next 24 hours following recent devastation in Darjeeling.
